For as long as I can remember, I have always enjoyed school. Always a pretty outgoing kid and made friends quite easily. Always loved my sport and was happy to always apply for leadership roles which I was Grade 6 Blue house leader, and year 12 Vincent house Leader.
Primary School and High School
Throughout high school, I knew always wanted to be a teacher and had to consider what type of teacher I wanted to be. So in my last couple of years of schooling, my subjects I mainly focused on were PE, Drama, Media and Health and Human Development.
With my extremely high passion for sport, I was always looking for opportunities that may be relevant to my future teaching. So I became an under 10 boys and under 14 girls basketball coach, and helped out schools on their sport days as football coach and basketball coach. I have also had experience as captain in my cricket team in juniors and in Men's basketball with Castlemaine Cannons.
Some relevant workplaces to help develop me for my future teaching involve:
- Working with the YMCA (holiday program and After School Care
- Teaching Aid job (worked with a grade 6, grade 3, and a grade prep)
Bachelor of Education
Ever since I can remember, I have always wanted to be a teacher, and I have felt that the primary setting is the most suited for my personal future teaching and what I want to do. So with PE as my major, I enrolled in Bachelor of Education which I have enjoyed every minute of this course and knew from day 1 it is what I want to as a career.
One of my biggest key strengths I've found during my personal experience on placement and work, is I am able to create a very close and positive teacher/student relationship with all the children I have taught or associated with. This helped me moving forward with them all as I developed their respect so when it was time to learn, I had their full attention and respect back to me. I take time to learn about each students' interests and scaffold intently to see who needs further attention with their learning.
Future Job Aspirations
Once I have graduated, I would love to start with some CRT or straight into a full time job where there is a job opportunity in a primary school at either just the school's PE teacher, or a classroom teacher. Once I have settled in at a school for a couple of years, then I will think about moving somewhere best suiting my lifestyle and for all the situations occurring in my life at that particular time. Preferably staying local for my future teaching but also happy to move around also.
