Major controversy in the book Hope Was Here and the poem " Keep Fighting Cancer."
- The authors of the book Hope Was Here and the poem "Keep Fighting Cancer" (Joan Bauer and Jennifer Correa) felt that cancer does not always affect you in negative ways and does not have to take away your dreams.
Cancer is a very common disease that is very hard to cure, even though cancer can be very scary it does not always stop you from doing things you want to do; the authors of the book Hope Was Here and the poem "Keep Fighting Cancer" (Joan Bauer and Jennifer Correa) felt that cancer does not always have to be bad, does not have to take away things that are important to you, and that it can make you stronger.
Cancer is one of the most deadly diseases across the United States. It can be caused by smoking, DNA, and a dirty environment. It usually only occurs in multi cellular animals.
According to the text I found, the author explains that,"Cancer is a class of diseases in which cells lose their ability to regulate cell division, resulting in malignant tumor growth. The author is explaining how cancer can form. (Opposing Viewpoints Online Collection, Gale)
Also, some types of cancer are breast cancer, lung cancer. liver cancer, and also skin cancer. Even though there are lots of more types, these are the few that are well know across the world.
At first, when you get cancer, the pain is not the bad but when the cancer starts to accumulate it can get very PAINFUL! You start to imagine why people give up on there life when they find out they have cancer.
But cancer is not always bad. Sometimes cancer can make you strive harder to accomplish things. Also, cancer will make you physically and also mentally tough. A good example is in my book a man with cancer is running for mayor. Even though he is in bad shape he is very tough and he is determined to accomplish his dream

My controversy is that cancer does not always have to stop you from achieving your goals or your dreams.
Cancer is a very bad disease that can be very common across the United States. It can lead to very bad effects including death
. In the book Hope Was Here, a 16 year old girl named Hope has not been blessed with the best life. She has moved over five times, all to different states. In the book she and her aunt Allie decide to move to Wisconsin. There she gets a job at a local restaurant and met a man named G.T Stoop. She found out he had cancer, but even though he was very sick he was the most happy, optimistic, and thoughtful person she had ever met. Later in the book G.T Stoop decides to run for mayor of the town. Everyone is in shock. "He has Cancer," everyone would say," he can't do it," another would announce. But he was determined to do it. The lesson here is that cancer does not stop someone from doing what they want, their attitude does.

For example, Jennifer quotes,"Mom keep fighting. Keep fighting." In this quote from the poem Jennifer is saying how her mom should not give up and she want her to keep fighting her battle with cancer. In my book the same thing happens to a man but instead of someone trying to push him to survive, he is pushing himself. Also, in the poem, Jennifer mentions how her mom is strong and she will fight through the cancer.
The poem that I found, "Keep Fighting Cancer" by Jennifer Correa, was a very deep and meaningful poem. It mentions how the author does not want her mom to give up fighting cancer and she thinks she can still do things she wants to do.
I my book the author discusses intently about GT. stoop (the man that has cancer) and how he thrives intensely to do the things he always has dreamed of doing even with cancer. The author wrote," now that i have lost all of my hair, i don't have to worry about getting it in the food." - GT stoop. (Bauer pg. 67) I really thought this piece of writing from the text back up my controversy very well because the quote shows that even with cancer you don't have to give up the things you want to do, just like how GT stoop can still cook the food for the local restaurant.
Also, the author writes about how GT stoop is running for mayor. With cancer, that type of job is very hard because you have to keep up with your health and you have to keep up with all the crazy things going around the town, but GT thinks he can really do it and he will win. In the book, the author writes," GT stoop strode smiling through the crowd that parted for him like the red sea did for Moses."(Bauer pg. 35) This quote from the book is trying to show you how confident GT really was. Even though he knew he was not the one that was supposed to win(he knew it also) he was still so confident. I can imagine how hard it would be if I had cancer an I was trying to do something amazing, how much doubt I would have in myself. This is why even people with cancer can do important things, because if you have the right attitude and believe you can do anything know matter what you have.
