USHS Reading Initiative 2018-2019
Plan of Action
The following plan of action will be implemented during this 2018-2019 school year. It's named RAWR or Read Always With Reason. This initiative will target literacy, critical thinking and reading comprehension.
Every Monday the student class and instructors will participate in reading the material assignment. While reading, students will highlight any words that are unfamiliar to them and underline any important details of the article.
Every Wednesday, students and teachers will analyze the vocabulary that was unfamiliar to them and will discuss tone, author’s purpose and main idea.
Finally, on Friday’s students and teachers will answer the high order thinking questions provided. In addition, they will complete the writing sample summarizing the article. These tasks should not take more than 15 minutes of the start of their class time.
Class copies will be provided for teachers and students. Check your mailbox every Monday morning!
Collect completed assignments every Friday and enter participation grades in gradebook; return work to students and keep a RAWR folder.
RAWR 1, RAWR 2, RAWR 3, etc.
