A self-driving car is a vehicle that is capable of sensing its environment and moving with little or no human input. Potential benefits include reduced costs, increased safety, increased mobility, increased customer satisfaction and reduced crime.
Experiments have been conducted on automated driving systems since at least the 1920s.The first truly automated car was developed in 1977, by Japan's Tsukuba Mechanical Engineering Laboratory. With the support of an elevated rail, the vehicle reached the speed of 30 kilometres per hour.
Tesla is the most known self-driving car company. Tesla is not actually a self-driving car. It has a autopilot mode that can self-drive and self-park without people even being in the car. The cars are equipped with eight surround cameras that provide 360 degrees of visibility around the car at up to 250 meters of range. As an upgrade above and beyond Autopilots capabilities, the company's stated intent is to offer full self-driving at a future time.
