“Unlocking and developing systematically a soccer player's game intelligence is still beyond the knowledge of many coaches and academies. The continuous commands and instructions (aka “yell and tell”) given by most coaches before, during and after the match or in training sessions, prevent most of the players from using their intelligence. Coaches dictate solutions to players instead of providing the players in training with a variety of challenging problems to be resolved. This rigid and authoritarian coaching style doesn't develop intelligent players.ESPZEN Soccer School believes to create intelligent players on the pitch, coaches need to stimulate more and instruct less. Instead of being instructors on the soccer pitch, they should become consultants, guides or organizers of information, knowing how to complement the teaching of technical skills with the accumulation of game specific knowledge, thus achieving significant learning!
Instead of offering solutions to specific problems during the match, our coaches provide our players with a series of problems appropriate for their level that they could and should solve for themselves during training. Problems/puzzles are presented to the players via a series of progressive simplified games that stimulate the players' minds and conditions their tactical behaviour. In other words, simplified games with progressive complexity, difficulty and demand help to develop each of our player's game intelligence in soccer. The end result is superior learning with a much better grasp of tactical concepts / game craft, which will allow the player to make good use of his/her enhanced tactical awareness when (s)he is faced with the many varied and different situations in a match.”
