Cultural Factors Affecting Education
America was founded on Protestant Ideology. Christian holidays help shape the curriculum (e.g. Christmas plays) and which days students have off of school.
The primary language in the United States is English. Therefore immigrants who do not speak English are forced to learn the language. ESL programs were created to help English learners.
Americans value Individualism and Equality. Students are encouraged to debate with and question their instructors. Students are expected to complete in-class assignments and homework by themselves. This reiterates America's value on self-reliance and individualism.
