Jeevan Chaudhary books an interview with Arthur Leander. Jeevan previously worked as a paparazzi but has chosen to witch careers and become an entertainment journalist.
Jeevan thinks that Arthur will remember him as the paparazzi who tool the picture of Miranda smoking but he does not.
Arthur uses Jeevan as a way to force himself to tell his current wife Elizabeth the truth. He tells Jeevan that he is leaving Elizabeth for Lydia
European travelers to the Near East brought back stories of an unusual dark black beverage. By the 17th century, coffee had made its way to Europe and was becoming popular across the continent.
Jeevan receives a call from Hua who is a doctor. Hua informs Jeevan that he has been treating patients for the Georgia Flu and that it looks like its going to turn out to be a serious epidemic.
Hua calls Jeevan again to tell him that he should get out of the city with his family or stack up on food and stay in his apartment. The flu is spreading through the city at an alarming rate.
Jeevan goes to his brothers apartment and stocks up on supplies. He fills grocery carts with food water and other essentials.
Jeevan then calls Laura and tells her to leave the city. He then goes back to his brothers apartment in hopes of surviving the flu.
After Frank kills himself and Jeevan heads out, memories of seeing Frank dead on his bed with an empty bottle of sleeping pills flood his head and times when their apartment was under attack and furthermore morose memories rush through. This negative rush of memories cause him to fear his life, fear people stealing from him or killing him. The negative aspect of his memories adds a lot to his mindful well-being and is a factor in him staying alive. He reminisces the hiking bag that Frank kept with him even after he was paralyzed and thanked his fate for keeping him alive and this little object helping him in such a massive way. However, the memories from before the flu and right at the beginning stay with him throughout the post-apocalyptic world and his only way of coping with them correctly was to push them aside and fight through the pain of seeing his dead brother and all the danger that the post-pandemic world brought with it. Therefore, keeping the memories in the back of his mind, Jeevan kept pursuing and persevering in the world.
Miranda is lighting up a cigarette in her driveway when a man approaches her and promises not to take a picture. The man says that his name is Jeevan. Jeevan starts making conversation with Miranda. He catches her off-guard and takes a picture of her smoking.
Jeevan is at the theatre with his girlfriend Laura watching a production of King Lear. Arthur starts fumbling his words and Jeevan, who is training to be an EMT, notices that something is not right with Arthur. Jeevan attempts CPR on Arthur who is now unconscious.
When the medics fail at helping Arthur, Jeevan comforts Kirsten and helps find tanya. After finding Tanya, Jeevan looks for Laura bust she is nowhere to be found. He then finds out over text that Laura has left the show without him. J
eevan then chooses to wander through the park in the snow.t he is leaving Elizabeth for Lydia
Jeevan is on his brother's Sofa and tries to remember what happened after Arthur told him about leaving his wife. He the wonders if he will ever see Laura again.
Jeevan remembers staying honest to what he had promised Arthur by waiting a full 24 hours to release his story. He says that that is one of his proudest moments and then remembers tricking Miranda.
Jeevan and Frank are still living together in Frank’s apartment. The windows are covered to prevent anyone from knowing they are there.
Jeevan uses Frank’s telescope and notices that there are an abundant amount of cars on the highway. People are also abandoning their cars.
The power goes out when Jeevan thinks about civilization and how interconnected it is.
Jeevan is a firm believer that one day the power will come back on. Jeevan and Frank reflect on how them being together in a small area is similar to when they used to pay in their treehouse as kids.
Day 47: Jeevan sees smoking rising in the distance. He also hears gunshots at night. Jeevan thinks about leaving but also knows how difficult it will be to take Frank with him.
Jeevan leaves the apartment for the first time since the Flu was announced. He goes up on the roof and sees that a storm is coming and decides that they will leave and use the storm as a cover.
Jeevan says he cannot leave Frank but Frank says “I’ll leave first,” and “I’ve given this some thought.”
After Frank kills himself, Jeevan decides to head out and stay by the lake.
As he is walking through the city, he has gun shots.
Jeevan cannot get older memories of Frank and the memory of him dead by the sleeping pills out of his head.
Jeevan meets a group of three: Ben, Abdul, and Jenny. The group travel together for a week before parting ways.
Year three: Settled in a town called McKinley.
Year ten: Jeevan married one of the founders of the town called Daria.
In the distance, someone is calling Jeevan’s name. It is a man who needs medical assistance for his wife who had just been shot by the prophet.
Jeevan is cutting bread with his son and wife Daria a thousand miles away from the airport.
