John F. Kennedy was elected the 35th president. He won the election through the help of the first televised debates, and was the first Roman Catholic president. He got the support from most young voters due to him being an advocate of equal rights for women and he backed the civil rights movement. During his time as president, he dealt with many tensions such as the Cold war, Vietnam war, Bay of Pigs, and the Cuban Missile crisis. He encouraged America to set high goals and achieve them through education.
