The Hate You Give
One night, Melinda's friend decided she wanted to go to a end of the summer party at Kyle Roger's house. During the party Melinda met an older boy, Andy Evans. He had a charming trait to him that just wowed Mel, but she soon found out that Andy wasn't as nice as he seemed. After the incident, Melinda was scared. She didn't know what to do so she dialed 911. After she made the call, she ended up walking home without a word.
The book I read was Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson. This book is about Melinda Sordino who starts 9th grade with a secret. She's known as the girl who called the cops on a party at the end of summer and people want to know why but she just won't tell them which just makes things even worse for her.
The Hate U Give
Angie Thomas, Laurie H. Anderson (the authors of "Hate U Give" and "Speak), Taylor Wood and Veeraiyah Subbulashmi (authors of poems: Empty and Police Brutality) include real-world issues in their works like psychological violence and anxiety. They believe psychological violence lead to isolating yourself from society, social anxiety, and a drastic change in behavior.
