Many plants are used in the clothing you wear. Cotton is commonly used in the making of fabric and can be found as a main component in most clothing items. Flax is a tall plant that consist of leaves with long, tough fibers. Flax was used by the ancient Egyptians to make clothing. Today, it is added to many materials to add strength to the fine yarns.
Animal fur has been used throughout history as a source of clothing. In a time before clothing and fabric was made in factories, people had to make their own clothing from the environment that surrounds them.
Today, fur from sheep, minx, rabbits, foxes, and other animals is used for high end clothing.
Plants and trees can provide shelter to animals and humans. Many plants provide shelter to animals living in forests, jungles, and other natural habitats. Animals may hide under their big leaves from rain or for shade. Other animals may use plants to build a house.Humans can use the wood from trees to build houses.
Plants and animals provide many of our basic needs. From vegetables and fruits to the fabric of our clothes, plants and animals help us survive.
