That was the number of people that were killed instantly by the initial blast of the atomic bomb in Hiroshima.
That was the number of people the died during the year after due to radiation sickness and burns.
DAMAGE DONE TO LANDSCAPE AND BUILDINGS
1 1/4 mile all around the epicenter of the explosion was totally burned.
2 miles away everything was blasted with some burning.
2-3 miles away everything was half destroyed.
5 miles away there was still damage to most roofs.
I believe that the first atomic bomb may have been justified as an act to end the war that had taken such a toll on the U.S. After the bomb, Japan was in a state of devastation and disorientation still when the U.S. dropped the second bomb. I think that the second bomb was unnecessary and a cruel act. The one bomb would have suficed and most likely made Japan surrender.
