Net Neutrality 101
An Open Internet
Net Neutrality
The idea that all traffic on the internet should be treated equally.
FCC
The FCC is the Federal Communications Commission, started in 1934. They upheld the laws within Net Neutrality, established in 2015.
The Original Rules
FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler set the ground rules in 2015. Made the cost of services equal among all providers and prohibited providers from slowing or blocking traffic on the Internet
New Rules
FFC Chairman Ajit Pai, under the Trump Administration, 2017 proposed to repeal the origianl rules. He said, "high-speed internet service should no longer be treated like a public utility with strict rules."
Impact Today
It all boils down to the price and speed of the internet. The repeal gives providers the option to sell different tiers of internet services.
