A RECORD LABEL is a brand or trademark associated with the marketing of music recordings and music videos. A record label is also a publishing company that manages such brands and trademarks, coordinates the production, manufacture, distribution, marketing, promotion, and enforcement of copyright for sound recordings and music videos.
The two types of record labels are:
1. Independent: small and localised
2. Major: part of a large international media group.
The term 'record label' comes from the label that is in centre of vinyl records which provides the manufacturer's name along with other information. They also have crucial relationships with other industries that can take the music to the appropriate and wider audience.
