Now, we have alternative energy sources such as solar power, hydraulic energy, and geothermal energy. These sources are renewable and good for the environment.
Alternative Energy- 2000's
In 1957, the first nuclear power plant was made in Shippingport, PA. These plants are powered by uranium which is in short supply.
In 1859, Edwin L. Drake drilled the first oil well. This launched the modern petroleum industry and led to the invention of cars.
The next major energy source used was coal. Most people switched from wood to coal around the Industrial revolution. There was a switch because the forests were disappearing.

Wood is a biomass and the first energy source ever used by humans. Cave men used this source of energy for light and warmth.

How Does It Work?
The Soccket is a soccer ball that captures energy from the impact it receives from being played with. It then uses that energy for light or other purposes. After one hour of play the ball can power an LED lamp for 3 hours. The ball has a pendulum that captures kinetic energy, drives a motor and charges a lithium ion battery concealed in the ball. The ball then has a stopper that can be removed and an LED light that comes with ball can be plugged in. You can also get attachments that will do things such as charge a phone.
Is It Renewable or Non-Renewable?
The Soccket is renewable because it uses the kinetic energy from the people playing with it to provide light. Your body never runs out of kinetic energy
Is it Marketable For The Public?
The Soccket is marketable for the public. You can purchase one by pledging $99 to their project on kickstarter.com.
The Environment is impacted by this new source of energy in many ways. Firstly, we are improving the sustainability of our environment by using a renewable resource as opposed to a non-renewable resource. In places like Africa, most people use kerosene to light their homes. Kerosene can cause lung cancer, as well as many other diseases. Kerosene is also a greenhouse gas that is affecting global warming and climate change.

Are There Environmental Risks or Benefits?
This energy source will positively impact future generations because it is helping fight the battle of climate change. If other companies start to develop or use renewable energy sources our planet will be in much better shape than it is now.

How Does This Benefit People?
This source of energy benefits people because it is environmentally friendly, and promotes physical activity and fitness. This also benefits people in developing countries because it provides them a clean, safe source of light, and when one soccket is bought, one is also donated to a village in a developing country.
How Might This Be A Disadvantage To People?
This energy source may be a disadvantage if the person using it is physically disabled and unable to play with the soccer ball, therefore they would be unable to create light. This also may be a disadvantage if the user has a large family, because the ball's light is quite small. In order to be effective, large families would need many balls.
Will Society Appreciate This Source of Energy
For the most part, society will appreciate this source of energy. There have been over 1000 backers on their Kickstarter project, and gradually people have been realizing that we need to take action if we want to save our environment, Studies also show that people enjoy helping developing countries through charity and service work.
A maximum of 6 watts can be produced at one time. This translates to about 72 hours of light,
How Much Energy is Produced?
The only cost attached to the Soccket is the base fee of $99 to purchase the ball and an LED lamp. You can pay more to receive things such as limited edition balls and t-shirts.
How Much Does it Cost?
Soccket has a small assembly center in New Jersey with under 100 workers. The resources needed to make the ball are small amounts of rubber, batteries, motors and a few other materials.

This source of energy is most prominent in developing countries like Africa. It is a little impractical for people to use in places like North America, and Europe due to the size of some houses and community areas. However, I think that balls can be used to replaced things like reading lights or lamps.
