American patriotism is the pride and support for the United States.
Military enrollment increase
The American Flag was displayed everywhere and sales flags as well as bibles sky rocketed. Church attendance also went up directly following attacks.
People from all across the nation began volunteering their time to help in any way they could from clean up to providing meals for first responders to running drives for supplies and donating huge amounts of money for cleanup costs.
Recent years decline
In Recent years Patriotism has been declining.
Though enrollments spiked after 9/11 they have gone back down
Overall patriotism increase
The number of people who enrolled in all branches of military, as well as first responder increased significantly following the attacks.
Though a spike of church attendance was present in the months directly following the attack church attendance has been on an overall decline for many years pre and post 9/11.
Overall I think that America has recovered in the patriotic sense because people have become more involved in communities, people have more pride for the country, and people want to help each other more. Even if we are not as patriotic as we were directly following the attack of 9/11 we are still more patriotic and more united than we ever were before 9/11 happened.
Travel in this case is the movement of people into and out of the United States either permanently or for vacation.
The highest international travel rates in history
Currently international travel rates between all countries are the highest they have ever been
Tourism in the U.S. post 9/11
In the months immediately following 9/11 many people from other countries came and visited New York to pay respects to the victims of the attack.
In the U.S. specifically there are still travel bans for certain countries, as well as harsher restrictions on people traveling from specific middle eastern countries.
Post 9/11 drop
In the few years following 9/11 travel to and from America to other countries overall declined. People did not take many vacations outside of the country. Also flying in general was a common fear following the attacks.
I would say that it is difficult to say if America has recovered or not based on travel because it has changed so much since 9/11. I think that travel will never be the same as it was before the attacks because of things like TSA. This is not necessarily a bad thing. It keeps us safe and I think that by taking precautions and keeping people safe then we are moving forward in a sense so you could say we have recovered in this way.
Media consists of movies, TV shows, music, books, and all social media platforms such as Facebook Instagram, Twitter, etc.
Multiple movies have been produced based off of the events that happened on 9/11 form the twin tower to the people on flight 93
Social media presence
Every year many Americans, especially people of importance tweet anapest about 9/11
Post 9/11 Censoring
In the 5 years following 9/11 movies from action to Disney were very careful about avoiding showing anything even tangentially related to what happened during the attacks.
Social media immediately following 9/11
Following the attack public statements about 9/11 were also censored because it was such a sensitive subject.
Media I don't think can be categorized as recovered or not recovered because it is changing all the time. Right after 9/11 media was sensitive to the event that took place, but a few years later media began addressing and reviewing the events. Over time the media adapted with what was happening in society.
Democracy is the form of government that the United States uses where all citizens have the right to vote for their leaders and the laws that they would like to implement in the country.
Note: For the following themes there will not be a pros and cons slide because there were no presentations it will just be my analysis.
I think that Democracy in the U.S. stayed relatively intact during and after 9/11. We didn't change anything about the way that we governed ourselves. However the attacks most definitely had an impact on all of the following elections and policies that would be voted into place immediately in response to the attack such as TSA, Homeland Security, etc. The major impact was the the war.
Places designated in this case to remembering the 9/11 attack and honoring the victims that lost their lives as well as their friends and families.
I think that memorials defiantly show recovery because they are symbols and remembrances of what happened. Yes they are there for people to mourn the loss of the victims , but they are also a symbol of the strength of our country and our people as a nation overcoming the horrible attack. In a way memorials are one way people put the country back together.
The United States has culturally recovered from 9/11 because when looking at the majority of cultural topics it shows the the U.S. has returned to the way it was pre 9/11, or even surpassed where it was before the attack. Americans have become more patriotic, they travel internationally more, they feel passionate about their political parties associated with democracy, and they memorialize 9/11 through movies, media, and physical memorial sites. Yes there are still some debatable topics such as media, however this particular topic is changing and adapting all the time it is hard to measure. 9/11 was a horrific day for America, but it has come back stronger and more unified.
