Steps in Evaluation
MAP out the defect
Magnetic Resonance Imaging
Circumfrential Fibers (2 pi r)
History of trauma, laxity, FAI, or high risk rotational activity (i.e. golf, hockey, baseball)
89% of patients with positive dial test had labral pathology at time of surgery (sundial/rotary phone)
Conventional 3T imaging has shown 100% sensitivity compared to 66% for 1.5T and 87% for MRA
Contact between the labrum and femoral head is best visualized with the scope in the MidAnterior Portal (MAP)
If there is not enough healthy labrum left to repair, inspect for remnant circumfrential fibers.
Protect your Repair
Make sure to perform a dynamic exam before closure to ensure adequate cam and pincer resection has been performed.
