2018 A Year of New Creations
__________________________________________________________________________
What an incredible year! More than any other year at the Bet Lev Foundation, 2018 has been a year of firsts:
The inaugural year of the UPLIFT Foundation;
the first year we opened the doors to the Freedom Institute online courses; and the first year for us to co-sponsor and facilitate conferences for youth leaders near and far.
It has also been a first in gathering with new friends from the UPLIFT Circle from around the world, which has ignited our work and our spirits with fresh new ideas and vision for what's possible when we work hand-in-hand.
The following pages are an invitation to dive in with us as we review our year of team-work and taking action, deepening relationships and forming new ones—and, of course, the impact we have made.
Yet, as we look back we also look forward, knowing 2019 will be an even richer year amongst us all, as the UPLIFT ecosystem grows roots and thrives.
With all my love,
Dorothy Kolomeisky

Stories of Us
"I learned so much about myself and who I really am in this course. I realized that people can really care about each other. It feels good to be connected and to hear over and over again that I'm well and not broken. It's not a message you hear often."
Grace M, college student, Freedom Institute

“When I walked into that building every Tuesday afternoon, I wasn't locked up. It's like for the next three hours I can live, I can be myself, I can open up, I can be me. The program changed my life."
Books Behind Bars, David Avila, youth formerly incarcerated for armed robbery turned college student and youth leader interviewed on the Katie Couric Show, Bet Lev Foundation

"BASS Schools are the difference between joy and sorrow. Life and no life. The difference between a young child picking chilis all day long or brick making and attending to school. These children are given what every child deserves: an education, a warm nutritious meal daily, loving care from teachers, a chance to dance and play sports-- and even a chance to become a skilled trade apprentice or attend advanced education. There are no words to express our gratitude to the Bet Lev Foundation for bringing this dream alive together with us."

Looking Ahead
Ecosystem
Below are some new and established ways the Foundations can contribute to the emerging UPLIFT ecosystem. Although all of this may change as we come together to explore and get clarity, it gives us a place to begin as our inspired blueprint materializes.
Foundations
The foundations expand online course offerings from the Freedom Institute; consult with grantees; create educational and community programming, including in-service trainings; and provide media content.
UPLIFT Media
Media targets inform foundation work as we continue to align ourselves, bringing creative inspiration to our online global community and a sense of Home.
Giving Trees
The Foundations team up with like-minded philanthropic groups to bring sustainable funding and long-term commitment to free our trusted partners to focus on service.
Human First
The Foundations contribute and support Human First in establishing new schools & communities, both on the ground and online, many of which may be found within our existing circle of grantees and peers.
If you identify with what comes and goes, you will be unhappy.
If you identify with what's permanent and always there
you are happiness itself.
