Mesopotamia is located between the two rivers, Tigris and the Euphrates. the lower Mesopotamia is located in Iraq while the Upper Mesopotamia is in Syria and Turkey. Mesopotamia is considered the beginning of Civilization.
Agriculture in Mesopotamia began around 8000 BCE. Agriculture was one of the biggest reasons that Mesopotamia rose to power in the first place. This is because it was between the Tigris and Euphrates river which made it a very fertile region, Along with this, farmers and hunters moved here and the most important crops that were farmed were wheat and barley. There was also many animals such as lions, leopards, boar and deer.
Two Important Leaders
Sargon The Great (reigned 2334-2279)was a important leader because he found the world's first ever empire, the Akkadian Empire. He also conquered many of the Sumerian city-states and united them under one rule.
.One important leader in Mesopotamia would be Gilgamesh (c.2650). He was the fifth king of the Sumerian City of Uruk. He also became known as a demigod. Alongside, he was considered a hero and seen as flawless and "perfect in strength".
In Mesopotamia, religion was very important to Mesopotamians as they believed that the divine affected every aspect of human life. Mesopotamians were polytheistic meaning that they worshipped several major gods and lots of minor gods. Alongside, each Mesopotamian city had their own patron god or goddess. A few gods that were worshipped often were Anu, Tiamat, Enlil and Marduk. Mesopotamians also believed in demons created by god.
The architecture of Mesopotamia has many distinct cultures spanning from the 10th millennium BC , when the first houses were built, to the 6th century BC. Architectural Accomplishments include the development of urban planning, the courtyard and the ziggurats.
The earliest writing in Mesopotamia was based on pictograms that were used to communicate information about crops and taxes. Over time, writing advanced and signs developed into a script called cuneiform.
In Mesopotamia, family was very important and there was many things that could and could not be done. Mesopotamia also had a complex society. The priests were the highest authority. Second was the middle-class which consisted of the fishermen, farmers and more. Lastly, there was the lower-class that comprised of slaves, people without land or children and prisoners.
In Mesopotamia, the artistic tradition of many different cultures is grouped together, making it Mesopotamian art. The most common art material was clay. Art also developed and got more popular as the years went by. Sumerians and the Babylonian mostly created small statues and objects of art, where as the Assyrians created murals and paintings.
