Alexander Hamilton thought that the United States should have a strong and varied economy. Hamilton wanted National Dept because he thought that all power should go to the government because they had the Bank of the U.S. Hamilton thought we should have big cities because we could trade with other people. Hamilton wanted a strong central government because he was afraid that the state governments would be too democratic. He worried that the many the mass of poor and middle class people would control the government.
"In framing a government which is to be administrated by men over men the great difficulty lies in this: You must first enable the government to control the governed, and in the next place, oblige it to control itself" -Alexander Hamilton
Thomas Jefferson distrusted all government because he thought that government was the greatest threat to individual liberty. Jefferson believed that a separation of powers was extremely important and that a strong federal government might lead to another monarchy. Jefferson was worried that a federal government would seek to control too much of the individual freedoms and aspects of American life. Jefferson thought that everything should be controlled by the states.
"What more is necessary to make us a happy and prosperous people? ...a wise and frugal government, which shall restrain men from injuring one another, which shall leave them otherwise free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take too much liberty than those attending too small a degree of it." -Thomas Jefferson
Whose Ideas Where Better?
I think Alexander Hamilton's ideas were better than Thomas Jefferson's because he wanted a strong central government. A strong central government is important because with that you can also have a strong legal, economical, and financial system all of which make our country successful.
