This goal is a goal to try and get better work and job opportunities for people, as well as to promote sustainable, inclusive economic growth and decent employment.
The problem is that many countries don't have good economic growth rates, and they also don't have good jobs to offer to the people that live there.
What the Need For This Goal Is
The need for this goal, or part of the goal, is because good jobs result in whether you have a nice, stable life, or not. Having a good job can either end in you having a more relaxed life than if you fail to get a job, or could end with you potentially- the worst-case scenario- living on the streets. It does happen in many countries, including the US.
Also, the need for better jobs and more economic growth is high due to many countries not having high economic growth rates, and therefore not having good job opportunities for people to get nice employment. Lots of people in certain countries don't have good living conditions, due to the economic growth, and because of that, the jobs.
Also, the economic growth of countries affect the growth of job production, and how good the jobs in certain areas are. The economy of a country decides many things, including people's opportunities in life (work, schooling), their working conditions, the money they get paid, who gets hired, etc. If the economy growth rate is low, so is the quality of each job.
This is a chart showing the percentages of both homeless and sheltered people in the US in 2016
Though it is not from this year, it still shows the odds of homeless people, compared to sheltered.
36% were individuals, sheltered
32% were people in families, sheltered
29% were individuals, not sheltered
3% were families, not sheltered
Sustainable economic growth-To have economic growth match according to what the national circumstances of the country are (In particular, at least 7 cent gross domestic product growth per year in the least developed countries, or least stable countries.)
Improve resource efficiency in consumption & production-This is exactly as it sounds. This is to get people to stop wasting resources and to do more with it. Also, help has already taken place and programs are currently improving it.
Promote policies to support job creation & growing enterprises-To promote policies that support productive activities, decent job creation, entrepreneurship, creativity and innovation. They also support smaller companies that are trying to grow big.
Full employment & decent work with equal pay-This target is to, by 2030, achieve equal work and pay for people of all genders, ages, and for people with disabilities as well.
Promote youth employment, education & training-This is to increase the amount of younger people that are getting to work, have an education, and overall train for these things. They want to do this by 2020.
Protect labor rights & promote safe working environments-This is exactly as it sounds once again. This target is first, to protect labor, or worker, rights, which are the rights that workers have in the relationship between other employees. Second, to promote working environments that are safe for people to be in, specifically migrants, mainly women migrants, and those in precarious job circumstances.
Diversify, innovate & upgrade for economic productivity-This target is to achieve higher levels of economic productivity through technological upgrading, innovation, and diversification, which is the varying of products.
Promote beneficial & sustainable tourism-This target is to, by 2030, implement policies to promote sustainable tourism that promotes local culture and products as well as creates jobs.
Universal access to baking, insurance, and financial services- This target is to make the capacity of domestic financial institutions’ encouragement of banking, financial services, and insurance stronger. So, this target wants to increase the amount of financial institutions’ encouragement and growth of certain things.
Increase aid for trade support-This target is to increase Aid for Trade support in the least developing countries. This is including through the Enhanced Integrated Framework for Trade-related Technical Assistance to Least Developed Countries.
End modern slavery, trafficking, and child labor- This target is as it sounds. This target is to end modern slavery, trafficking, and child labor, as well as to secure the prohibition, or the forbidding of the worst kinds of child labor. This target is wanted to be achieved by 2025 with the ending of child labor in all forms.
Develop a global youth employment strategy- This target is, by 2020, to develop and put into use a global strategy for youth employment as well as to implement the Global Jobs Pact of the International Labor Organization.
How this goal affects us
Globally this goal affects us because if every country's economic growth is very high, then the whole world is deemed to be powerful, or very stable and wholesome. Also, having decent work for people makes the economy wholesome ad shows dedication. It makes each country more so rich than poor, by having people decrease in the category of low-class
This goal affects us nationally because having good economic growth shows how we are functioning as a country. Nationally it makes us richer, like with globally, and also proves our financial sturdiness. The decent work part of this goal affects us by giving us work across the country and making people more motivated to work.
This global goal locally affects us by showing that our produce that is being sold in our local area is successful in being sold to customers. This goal makes our small businesses more successful locally. Also, by having decent work in our local area it improves our economic growth because people work at those small businesses if they're decent.
What we can do globally
For this goal, what we can do globally is convince or make the governments of each country begin to pay for repairs and upgrades on infrastructures, such as bridges, railroads, ports, and sewage systems. By doing this, the countries are showing their wealth as well as how their country can grow economically and structurally. Another thing we can do globally is try and cut taxes from each country. This is because people use that money they saved from the decreased amount of tax to purchase items, which grows small and big businesses, which improved economic growth. Even if the process is slow, the outcomes would be ideal to increase economic growth
As well as the infrastructure upgrades and repairs being part of the economic growth category, it is also part of the decent work category. This is because, due to the work that needs to be put in to repairing and building the structures, people can possibly have more opportunities to get jobs and make decent money. Also, the governments or leaders of the countries can pay for better workplaces as well. Some countries don't have the money to do that, but they can till try and do what they can. People need jobs, and jobs would be available with this method. Of course, this is what we can do. Trying to convince the governments of these thoughts and suggestions is a good start.
For this goal, what we can do nationally is try to decrease the amount of poverty. We can do this by changing the thoughts that, one, only experienced workers can work at jobs, and two, that people of certain genders and race can't work or do certain things. Many work places do not accept people who don't have as much experience as others, and do not give them chances, as well as they don't show full support towards people of certain race and gender, which is also wrong. Showing that a workplace gives reasonable opportunities makes that work way better.
Another thing that we can do is improve the workplace conditions. Many people don't want to work due to poor workplace conditions, such as the work being somewhere sketchy, not having high security, or being dirty and plain unsanitary. By improving workplace conditions, we can improve the amount of people that feel more encouraged to start working and have some sort of sense of excitement instead of pure dread. The workplace conditions being nice make the work way more decent.
Another thing we can do is try and get the pay of workers raised. Many people who get a job aren't satisfied with the pay and end up quitting or feeling discouraged. If the workers aren't doing their jobs correctly, then it is understandable, but some people do so much hard work and don't gain anything compared to it in return. By showing that with hard work comes fair rewards, many people could decide to start working and could lessen the population of lower class people compared to middle or upper class.
What we can do Nationally
This connects to the goal of decent work due to the fact that when jobs are decent they pay as the workers deserve. This shows that the tasks the workers do aren't taken for granted. By paying workers as they deserve, the job's reputation is also improved and seen as 'decent.'
To improve economic growth, prices of things can be raised. This would improve businesses by giving them more wealth and helping to improve everything about them. Though, the prices wouldn't be utterly drastic. It wouldn't be like the price of a water bottle goes from $3.00 to $50.00. The prices would be reasonable, like $3.00 to $7.00 or $10.00 if the business is confident of their sales item. By having the prices raised, the business or businesses are showing that they have the ability to grow price-wise and economically. Also, this gives more money to the businesses to produce more products.

This graph is a graph of the number of jobs that people have by gender, race, ethnicity, and age.
What we can do Locally
One thing we can do for decent work locally is try and come up with ways to include younger people in gaining experience. Experience for jobs, that is. If younger people get some experience in the job industry and how it works and what to do, they will be hired more easily. Jobs usually go for the experienced people, and if they do decide to accept people of youth, then having experience is a definite plus for any company. If younger people are included, then they will feel more motivated to keep going due to them being experienced. The younger people can be included in some sort of mentoring before they enter the point where they are looking for jobs. By having young yet experienced people working at a job, it makes the work way more decent, being as they have both youth and experience combined
One thing we can do locally to help improve economic growth locally is to buy from small local businesses and shops. This way, the growth increases in that certain area. By buying from a local shop or market opposed to one that's not local, the local shop's economic growth will be improved and the other one that's not local. Another thing we can do to improve and raise the economic growth rates locally is try and not ignore the small shops and instead support them. By purchasing and supporting a small and growing business opposed to a large business, the economic growth increases due to the fact that small businesses are growing which is a sign of economic growth. When you purchase from and support a small company, you are helping with the economic growth of your local area. Those are two things we can do to help out with economic growth locally.
