Street teens is a major, real world conflict which can lead to many other major issues .In S.E Hinton's novel "The Outsiders", shebelieves that with a little love and compassion from people who care about you, you can get through any hard times you face.
What are Street Teens?
Street teens are teenagers who live away from there household. Street teens ages range from age twelve to age eighteen. This can be proven because in the book on of the characters says, "We're all just high schoolers."(Hinton) Most of the time, they will only remain on the streets for a short period of time but, there has been a rise of chronic street dwellers.
Why do teens become street teens?
As stated in the article, Street Teens, the main cause of teenagers leaving there home is because of the issues they are having in there home such as physical abuse. Also, anther big reason for girls is pregnancy because it isn't accepted in there home. Finally, some street teens didn't leave by choice. Some of them were pressured or forced out of there homes.

What other issues can street teens lead to?
Life on the street can lead to multiple issues. A short excerpt from the poem "Clockwork" shows some issues. "We grew up on the block. Torn clothes, holed shoes, no socks. Young boys tryna make it to the top. On the corner selling flake and pushing rock." This is saying they didn't have easy ways to make money so they started selling drugs. The article "Street Teens" also explains the issue by saying "street teens have difficulty finding legitimate ways to earn money to support themselves. For this reason, many become involved in criminal activities such as drug dealing."
