Tensile Membrane Structures are those in which every part of the fabric is in tension.
The rule for its stability is that, a tensioned fabric structure must have curve equally in opposite directions; this gives the membrane its 3-dimensional stability.
This is referred to as "double curvature" or anticlastic form" and is mathematically known as a hyperbolic paraboloid.
