When we finished the first draft of our music video, we showed our fellow class mates and members of other media classes our music video and asked them to fill out a table to give us feedback on our video.
People who gave use feedback said that they liked the way we used a variety of shots and locations. They really liked the shots that were filmed in Spain and felt that Soraya's performance made it clear that our video was a music video. They also liked the artistic side to the music video, especially the fire and eye wall shots because they liked the way the shots went with the lyrics in the song. The feedback also said that they liked the editing that we had done and the special effects such as the slow motion effect, dip to black and the filters.
However, some people thought that the shots needed more colour effects as they thought the colours in some of the shots were not strong enough. They also said that some parts of the song were out of sync with the song and that there wasn't many special effects and transitions used in the music video. People thought that we needed to add more cuts, add more dancing shots and that Soraya needs to look at the camera more and have more energy. The only shot that people said that they didn't like was the tree shot at the beginning of the music video.
After receiving this feedback we decided to change the brightness and contrast of all the shots to make the colours in the shots more clear and less dull. We also decided to change some of the shots and replace them with others to avoid using the same location to many times. We also decided not to add lots of cuts because the pace of our song is not very upbeat and fast for the whole song. It's only has a fast pace for the chorus. So we decided to keep most of the cuts that same because the number of cuts went with the pace of the song. However, we went through each shots and changed the speed of th shot to make the parts that were out of sync in sync.
We created a questionnaire and did a viewing, in which we showed the younger part of our target audience our music video. This meant that we could get a good amount of younger people to view our music video, which we may not have got if we used Survey Monkey.
A few of the people that completed the questionnaire were into the genre of pop where as the rest of the people were into rock, indie or country music and they were all in the age range of 14 - 16 years old. They liked the fact hat the music video had lots of different locations, backgrounds (eye, paint and fire walls) and the different outfits that Soraya was wearing in the music video. They also liked the atmosphere that Soraya created in her performance, the way the music video was different and the way the video went with the song. However, some people thought that some parts of the music video was out of sync and that there needed to be more people in the music video, rather than just having Soraya o her own for the whole video.
We also asked them if the music video made them want to listen to the song again and the majority of them said yes. This meant that we had successfully made a music video that attracted our audience and made them like the song through watching the music video. We also asked them if they though that our music video belonged to the genre of pop/indie pop and the majority of them said yes. This meant that we had achieved our goal of creating a music video for our pop/indie pop artist that made her have a more 'urban' pop image rather than a girly 'pop princess' look.
We decided to use Survey Monkey to send a survey to our target audience over email. This meant that we could gain access to a wider sample of people. We started off the survey by asking questions that would give us an idea of what kind of people have answered our survey.
82% of the people that answered our survey said that the music video made them want to listen to the song again.
Only 18% of the people we asked said that the music video didn't make them want to listen to the song again.
These results tell us that our music video has been a success. This is because the whole idea behind a music video is to promote and sell a song to its target audience, and we have successfully made promoted our song through our music video.
