Commodore Matthew Perry sought out to show the Japanese Emperor what the west had to offer. Perry wanted to open up trade with the west via gifts. He stormed into Tokyo Bay with a small US Naval Fleet. This then led to Japan's opening in Trade.

The nationalism was shown throughout the Asiatic governments. These governments were struggling for raw materials leading them to the Depression. In result many results of this will come to happen.
This war was to fight for control over Korea and Manchuria. The war consisted on for control of ports and land. There were many causalities on both sides. Finally in 1905 Japan won against Russia with the Treaty of Portsmouth.
Lt. Col. Kingoro Hashimoto established a military controlled group called the Cherry Society. They tried to exist within the Japanese Culture. There was talk of a coup d'etat in March 1931, but it was shut down due to disagreement. Even though shut down Japanese military reacted and invaded
Manchuria to take down the group.

Prime Minister Inukai Tsuyoshi Killed
May 13 1932 five plotters met to discuss a revolution in Japan. Nine of them met May 15 at 5 pm at a sacred shrine to drive to the Prime Minister's residence. One group went to the rear while the other easily went through the front. Tsuyoshi wanted to talk peacefully. Just then the second group barged in saying, "No use talking. Fire!" and killed him.
Hitler sought out Japan in order to secure an alliance. He wanted this alliance so Japan could get farther into war with China. He was hoping with his help they'd win in order to defeat China, one of Hitler's enemies.
Nationalism was growing in China and Japan thought it was against them. This made Japan angry and the undeclared war grew stronger in hate. Japan began to invade China due to this. Making there way further in.
Invasion of China
Japan has now invaded China. They made there way through many cities. They finally made it to Nanjing. There they took the capital and killed 300,000 lives, both civilians and troops.
Occupation of French Indochina
Japan and China came to a stalemate. Japan took advantage of the stalemate to block the railroads from the Indochina port to the lines. Doing this stopped supplies reaching the front lines. Pushing Japan ahead in the war on China.
December 7, 1941 the day the US would enter WWII. On the morning of the 7th Japanese aircrafts flew through Pearl Harbor with an onslought attack. Taking the US Naval Base by surprise and destroying a good amount of ships. This would trigger our joining of WWII.
