“Our nurses call all of our patients/parents of patients before a test with anesthesia is scheduled. They talk to the patient/parent about the reason for the requested anesthesia protocol and how we may be able to help avoid the anesthesia due to the environment that we have available, as well as our past successes. We talk about catering the experience to this particular patient and their likes and dislikes.
We then ask if the patient or parent feel that it is possible for the patient to be able to tolerate the exam without sedation. If they buy in, we schedule them for an MRI without anesthesia. We pass this information on to our imagers so that they are prepared when these patients arrive.”
