Research Needed to Treat Acquired Central Auditory Processing Disorder (CAPD) in Service Members and Veterans
Characterization of acquired CAPD in service members
and veterans:
Research into capabilities to prevent, protect, predict, model, and experimentally assess military acquired CAPD will improve the selection and accuracy of clinical assessment strategies, and inform the development of evidence-based educational materials and courses.
Assessment of acquired CAPD in service members and veterans:
Research into capabilities to screen, differentially diagnose, and evaluate military acquired CAPD will support the development and selection of treatment and rehabilitative strategies, and help to document and explain risk factors, comorbidities, symptom profiles, trajectories, and outcomes.
Treatment and rehabilitation of acquired CAPD in service members and veterans:
Research into capabilities to effectively treat and rehabilitate military acquired CAPD will improve our understanding of comorbid factors, functional deficits, and symptom profiles that may be unique to military exposure.
Train/Sustain
Training and sustaining DoD and VA clinicians and patients:
Research into capabilities to effectively train clinicians and educate patients, and improve care access and delivery, will improve assessment/diagnostic efficacy and patient outcomes.
Objectives combine to build a solution-driven model of research and development needed for treatment and rehabilitation of acquired CAPD
