What is it?
A condition characterized by an extreme tendency to fall asleep whenever in relaxing surroundings.
~Narcolepsy affects approximately 3 million worldwide. It is estimated that only 25% of people who have narcolepsy have been diagnosed and are receiving treatment.
~thought to be caused by a lack of the brain chemical hypocretin, which regulates sleep. ~thought to result from the immune systemmistakenly attacking parts of the brain that produce hypocretin.
What causes narcolepsy?
The main effect of Narcolepsy is a devastating amount of sleepiness during daylight.
An effect of narcolepsy:
1. Aggression while sleeping
2. Less muscle tone and possibly seeing things that aren't actually there
3. Most of the time feeling drowsy and becoming overwhelmed during the daytime
