During the Big Data Platform Convention we held a workshop to further a needs assessment for validation of these services
WHAT ARE THE OPTIONS?
FORM A
WORK GROUP
With an expert panel and interactive webinar we asked key questions such as “what can we can learn from other sectors such as health care?”
We identified the need to establish a working group to help and guide validation initiatives for these services worldwide

THE NEED FOR A VALIDATION SCHEME
TOPIC OF 2018
THE 3 MAIN QUESTIONS ADDRESSED
Service availability on 15 million km² of cropland and 28 million km² of pasture
Farmer internet access in 52 countries
Farmland coverage of 2G, 3G, and 4G services

SETTING BASELINES
WE MEASURED:
JOINT VENTURES
The 2018 working group on setting global baselines worked on creating a global picture of smallholder farmers and patterns of mobile technology access and availability.
We will be using these data to provide baselines for NGOs, governments, and research organizations to identify gaps in access and availability of data-driven agronomy services for more targeted interventions.
JOINING FORCES
We will continue to build onto our existing network. Partnership possibilities will be shared through an interactive stakeholder map.
WHAT TO EXPECT IN 2019
Our work on mapping global technology baselines will be published for use for all members. Furthermore, a working group on standards for validating tools will be set up.
Our new focus for 2019 will be Digital Extension Services. We will share knowledge and outputs on this topic with newsletters, webinars, blog posts, and white papers.
