In HOSA, students get the opportunity to meet the needs of the health care community by offering opportunities for knowledge, skills, and leadership. It helps students build self-confidence, motivation, and enthusiasm. This organization motivates students to participate in community service activities, helps them develop workplace readiness skills, and also develop effective leadership qualities and skills for them.
HOSA's COMPETITIVE EVENTS
HOSA's competitive events help in bringing health careers education to life through rigorous testing of skills, knowledge, performances, and leadership capabilities. Its competitive events are divided into six(6) categories and they include; Health Science Events, Health Professions Events, Emergency Preparedness Events, Leadership Events, Teamwork Events, and Recognition Events. The event that is related to my pathway and interest me the most is the Health Professions events.
HOSA COMMUNITY SERVICE
This organization provide students the opportunity to contribute to the development of their communities through service projects. The 2018-2019 HOSA service project is the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation(NPCF). This project focuses on adult and kids treatments and is done within the walls of individual institutions. They have donated millions of dollars to research. I would like to get involved in this service project because they make amazing discoveries that are saving many children's lives. It target treatments to increase the survival rate of children battling cancer
WORK BASED LEARNING PROGRAM
Work Based Learning Program help students with an opportunity to earn high school credits while working. It can also provide a real-work experience for students. Through this organization, students who join HOSA can get the opportunity to go to school but leave school to work in health care occupations. In this manner, you can develop leadership skills, employability skills, and also know and understand what it feels like working with supervisors and handling some responsibilities on your own. In this organization, students get to work in different career pathways, but get the chance of choosing their dream career at the end. Some qualifications for Work Based Learning Programs include; be a junior or senior, good grades, good attendance, be at least 16 years, and have a reliable transportation.
