In the subtext of Edward Bloor's novel plot, Edward Bloor addresses real-world issues, including muck fires and the race in football scholarships. He presents subtextual commentary on each issue; he believes that muck fires are bad for the environment and for your health. He also addresses how hard it is to get a football scholarship because there are so many people who want it.
In this book it show there is a huge competition between young men striving to earn a football scholarship. Football scholarships can make a huge impact on family's life because if a family doesn't have enough money to send their son to college there is a chance if he's good enough he could earn a football scholarship. Football scholarships are an opportunity to get a good education. This is an issue because now kids focus all of their time into playing football isnstead of other stuff like studying for school. Kids who are so focused on getting a scholarship will go as far as to use performance enhancing drugs. These drugs are very and dangerous and can go as far as to putting their own life in danger.
In the book Tangerine, muck fires take a big part in this book. A muck fire is a fire that burns underground. Muck fires usually happen in late winter, or early spring. So you can see that this can effect a lot of people especially in Florida.
In the book, it happens to the people in Paul and his family's neighborhood. It has a burning smell that can effect a lot of people. Muck fires mostly start from lightning, and in the book Tangerine, there was a lot of lightning.
Football Scholarship Pages
One part when Erik's football scholarships were mentioned was when Paul found a file on his dad's compute that was dedicated to Erik's football scholarship offers. it states on page 159. "I saw a file listing that I definitely had not been there before. I would never have missed this. "Erik---Scholarship Offers."
Another part that was mentioned about football scholarships is on page 11 it states "I don't know that it's OK,but that's the way it is. He's the boss. He makes his own hours. He told me I can make my own hours, too." He looked over at Erik. "That'll be good for us. I'll be able to go to all your football paractices."
Muck fires were mentioned in the book near part 1, chapter 2. It was mentioned here, because Paul Fisher and his mom smelt smoke. There happened to be a muck fire in the field behind their house.

Another part where the muck fires were mentioned was around part 2, chapter 13. It was mentioned there, because the homeowners of Paul's neighborhood came to his house to talk about trying to put out the muck fires. Unfortunately all they did was make a swampy area for mosquitoes.
In my article is states that is very tough to earn a football scholarship. You must work very hand and you have eat, breathe, and sleep football. The competition to earn of these scholarships is vey tough.
"But you've got to put your dream school in reality. "You have to understand that you need to go where it's the best fit for you, what's best for you and your future." This means that you have to make getting a football scholarship a reality because if your not good enough than you have no chance at earning one.
In my article it says that if there is very little rainfall, spring can bring the most fire threat in recent history.
It also says that late at night it was hard to breath, and they had to get out of the house right away.
"Despite the worrisome smoke, Dwyer said, the muck fire does not pose a threat to local residents as it is contained by natural fire walls hacked out of the woods by firefighters. Still, it continues to smolder."

Lake Winsdor Middle School relates to this book because this is when Erik Fisher goes to school and when Paul used to go to school. At the school uis also where the football practices are held. This is the place where Mike Cosetello was killed and where Erik and Aurther commited murder.
On page one it states,"Erik's arrival is going to change the football season at Lake Windsor High School." This is when everything changes for all the people living in Tangerine County.

Lightning relates to the book, because there was a lot of lightning in the book. In fact, someone in the book died from a lightning strike during football practice. Also someone's house is keep on getting struck by lightning.
Lightning also relates to muck fires, because what makes a muck fire start is lightning.
