Overpopulation
With too much people there is not enough food. In real life, we are trying to lower birth rates. To sustain a global stable population each women has to have an average of 2 total children."The world must increase its food production by 60 percent or else risk food shortages that could bring social unrest and civil wars." Elijah Wolfson.
Therefore food rates are dropping fast and more trees are being destroyed to make farmland.
As the population grows, there becomes less and less homes, and homelessness rises. This graph show the normal homeless/poverty rate. This percentage will explode as the population increases. "In just 123 years, doubled again, to 2 billion and it doubled yet again, to 4 billion by 1947." Elijah Wolfson. If the population rose that quick in the past, the population will rise even more quickly in the future. In the book the heartland war was caused by over population.
Homelessness
One day there is not going to be enough resources to support the needs of the population. This is called overpopulation. The maximum amount of people the resources in the world can support is called the carrying capacity. The only way we can stop this is by increasing the carrying capacity by creating a more efficient resource to make it through tough times. These are the effects that will happen if we do nothing about this problem. This relates to the book Unwind, because in the book they unwind kids, because the kids are unneeded, to solve the problem of overpopulation.

War
There will also be many resource wars if overpopulation occurs. "Population growth is rapidly diminishing the world’s resources."wrote by Biscontini, Tyler J. in "Overpopulation" Countries will be scavenging for resources and anything will be treasured. Countries will try to stock up on everything they can before it is too late. They will fight many wars. In our book the heartland war is going on. The heartland war is where they are taking unwanted kids and selling their body parts.
In the book lots of kids are not getting fed enough food. Connor, Risa, and Lev are hungry and looking for food.
Unwinds can be homeless kids or unwanted like Connor, Risa, and Lev.
