What is social anxiety?
Social anxiety is the fear of social or performance situations. With this condition, exposure to social or performance situations inevitably results in an immediate anxiety response. When confronted with an uncomfortable social situation, individuals with this anxiety view themselves negatively as a social object, overestimate negative consequences of the situation, believe they have little control of their emotional response, and view their social skills as too poor to to cope with the situation effectively.
