India is under the control of the British monarchy and Viceroy.
India was still under the control of the British after WWII even though they sent troops and supplies to help the British army
Britain gave gave self-rule to the Irish Free State making it even harder to deny self-rule to India.
The British Parliament passed the Government of India Act. India was divided into self-ruling territories, yet did not have much independence.
Huge demonstration at Amritsar, where the commander of the British forces ordered troops to fire on the peaceful protesters. Around 400 were killed and about 1000 injured. His actions caused horror and outrage in India and back in Britain.
