This Short film begins of with a non-diegetic sound of a voice over of a girl saying “Today, I found the truth”. This intrigues the audience in finding out what this truth is and what epiphany she comes to. This film begins in reverse as the girl shown in the beginning begins with a mask on her face and then the clip is reversed and the audience see her put the mask back on and go back in the direction from which she came. The sound affects used during the scene is sharp to create a sign of mystery and seriousness.
The film begin in a chronological order, when the mysterious girl is sat at a table alone as a number of people walk past her and she is ignored by them which represents that she is a lonely character. The next scene is in a classroom learning about Plato’s Allegory of the cave which is written on the board. This story is about humans living in a cave their whole live and not being able to move their bodies surrounded with dark walls. When one slave gets released he discovers a whole new world. After this was expressed the girl puts her head up as she is enlighten by the teachers words as if they relate to her. At this point we can see that everyone is wearing a mask which symbolizes that everyone has a disguised identity.
An interesting part of this film is the scene where the girl in a purple masks takes her mask off while walking to a group of people but still having another mask underneath the one she took off. This shows that the girl changes her character to be able to fit in different groups.
Then the scene of her at at a table alone in the cafeteria returns. She looks around at her peers whilst they sat in groups wearing the same color masks. This suggests they are similar to each other. The girl suddenly freaks out and runs to the bathroom and falls on the floor. Then we find her in the same position as the beginning of the film, staring at herself in the mirror as she realizes her mask is broken. The broken mask suggest that she is finally able to see her real skin and her true identity. She is clearly surprised and disturbed bu this as reinforced by the shaky camera and dramatic music. The mystery girl takes off her mask revealing her face as she is smiling at her reflection. A voice over saying “Today the truth found me”, this suggests that the mask was a lie and now she has found herself.
The girl walks out into her school for everyone to notice her without a mask, as she passes by every head turns towards her as she reveals her face. The audience are able to see that she has the confidence she previously didn’t have and showing her peers that she has found her true identity.
