"Don't expect to build up the weak by pulling down the strong"
August 2, 1923 – March 4, 1929
Calvin Coolidge was born in Plymouth Notch Vermont, He was a republican who believed in a hard days work as he was raised that way. His father, John Coolidge, was a successful farmer who served in the Vermont House of Representatives and the Vermont Senate, as well as other local offices. As a boy, Calvin had little ambition in life beyond hoping to follow his father as a good, honest small-town merchant. After college, Coolidge began participating in local republican politics in North Hampton. In 1910, the citizens of Northampton selected him as their mayor
While Coolidge was president the United States was learning many new things, such as finding out pluto was a planet. After WW1 America was full of wealth and inovations such as automatic transmission and V-8, V-12 and V-16 engines. Power had suddenly been completely redefined. The car industry suddenly boomed and tv's also started becoming popular as well as air conditioning. Life started to become a luxury as Coolidge could not go a day without a new thing sitting as his front doorstep. He had a world of opportunity but mistakenly used his power making him one of the main causes of the Great depression.
Calvin Coolidge might have started the great depression?
Crash in the stock market
Calvin Coolidges failure to aid the depressed agricultural sector seems shortsighted, as nearly five thousand rural banks in the Midwest and South shut their doors in bankruptcy while many thousands of farmers lost their lands. His tax cuts contributed to an uneven distribution of wealth and the overproduction of goods.
How did he Impact the Great depression?
I chose calvin Coolidge because I wanted to pick a president I have never heard of and try to figure as much out about him as possible, previously I had never heard of Coolidge and when I saw his name I jumped on it. I am glad I did in fact pick him because he turned out to be a very interesting man who was indeed not the best president but a president who definitely impacted the U.S.A while he served as president.
