Mad Cow Disease
In the U.S. it is very rare to contract this disease there are less then 1,000 per year. Many of these cases are U.S. citizens who have traveled and have picked up the disease.
In animals: abnormal behavior, trouble walking, and weight loss.
In humans: when contracted it is called Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease and will cause anxiety, dementia, insomnia, and coordination problems
Treatment is mainly used for keeping the patient comfortable, due to no cure.
Treatments can include supportive intensive care and medications
Mad cow disease was first discovered in the United Kingdom in 1986
If you have Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease then you might not know it til years later
cooking the meat thoroughly won't help you can still contracted the disease
Mad cow disease is very deadly to the animal that contracts it and in humans Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease is also very fatal with just under 500 deaths in 2016 in the United States
For a cow to become infected then the cow must consume parts of another cow with mad cow disease. this is most common that the infected cows ground up parts would be put in feed of another cow. For humans to contract it they must eat the meat from an infected cow
