Completion of secondary school, apprenticeship training in watch or jewelry repair or gemology, a watch repairer certificate, and experience as a jewelry or watch repairer.
Gem setters create, repair, and assemble precious jewelry and gemstone work. They design and set gems. Most of their work is testing, rolling,drawing, and forming metals. Use of special tools to fit diamonds and gems into jewelry pieces.
Some gem setters work for a shop or a company. Others are self employed and have their own workshop and they may do setting work for other jewelry companies or jewelers. They also create their own pieces in which to set diamonds and gems.
