HOW DOES YOUR PRODUCT ENGAGE WITH AUDIENCES AND HOW WOULD IT BE DISTRIBUTED AS A REAL MEDIA TEXT?
Our team chose the hybrid genre a family drama-thriller as our targeted audience is the middle class and lower class, of mostly above late twenties. Though our clip also features a teen girl and a young adolescent boy born in a non- typical family, this could attract similar peers. The main target were the audiences that are interested in the high lifestyle of their society and similar social issues faced by them; also people that use the local Punjabi language more profoundly. These were all accordingly to the opening sequence which is based upon a family of a politician and his relation with his two children and his wife.
We addressed and attracted our audiences, in a way that anyone in our society could relate at some point, through cinematography and the overall plot.

Cinematography is really important to a media product as appeals to the audience. A realistic high class society to make the film less boring and more approachable to the audiences. An example would be the use of different camera angles respective to different scenarios.
Secondly, we used strong visuals and sharp colours that the viewers highly look for in a film and which complements the film's genre. The audience can see that our characters wore clothes that represents their identity and social class they belong to on the screen.
Like the politician wearing typical traditional clothes; shalwar and kamez with black waistcoat with his wife and daughter fancily dressed.
Facial expressions are equally important too as the audience itself personally gets involved and immerse themselves in the similar situation as the characters.

A narrative pleasure is an important aspect in the film that pleases, intrigues and attracts the audiences; in a way making them involved in the film. It has many sub-branches. In our opening film, Darar, the politician comes and sits on the couch when he has a harsh interaction with his wife. This is hook used in the very beginning of the opening sequence to engage the audiences' curiosity. It goes onto the enigma as the son's identity is revealed and the narrative takes a new angle as now the audiences' attention is drawn toward it. enigma results in the audiences to keep watching the film find out the answer behind the unsolved mystery till the
climax. Climax is the turning point in the plot which leads to very tense and emotional moment,it is a result of the hook, enigma and overall build, that we contrasted with the cliffhanger. climax is when when the boyfriend 'ahmed' enters the house shouting the name of the politician's daughter 'fatima'.
We placed the cliff hanger in the end of our clip to leave the audience on the edge of the narrative to question the previous happenings and also that what is going to happen next ; hence creating suspense. THE CLIFFHANGER WE CREATED IN OUR OPENING SEQUENCE WAS THE GUNSHOT AND RATHER A QUESTION AS to who shot the fire . THIS IS VERY RELATE-ABLE TO THE THEMATIC PLEASURES THAT GRIPS THE AUDIENCES' ATTENTION THROUGH A RUNNING THEME, IN THIS CASE A THRILLER. IT IS VERY GENERALIZED AND VAGUE,GENERATING A LARGER AUDIENCE. THE REPRESENTATIONAL PLEASURES ALLOWS THE FILM, IN TERMS OF LOCATION AND CHARACTER (GENDER, AGE, ARCHETYPE, SITUATION) TO CONNECT WITH THE AUDIENCE, CREATING A SENSE OF IDENTIFICATION. LIKE THE TEEN GIRL IN THE FILM HAVING BOYFRIEND AND FAMILY PROBLEMS ENABLES THE GIRL OF SAME AGE GROUP TO SYMPATHIZE AND IDENTIFY HERSELF IN THE CHARACTER.
A small part of inspiration for our movie was from Revenge, an American drama, and the Indian movie Raagneeti. Both of them have quite a similar plot and were taken as reference point when writing the script.
: is the process of making a product available to the audience.
We used 20th Century Fox which is an American film studio and distributor. It is also one of the six media conglomerates of Hollywood film that rule the industry to distribute our film as it is famous for its thriller movies like Gone Girl. It has introduced many new films in the industry and made them a blockbuster within few weeks of its release. It uses trailers, billboards, trailers, viral marketing at a huge scale and other multiple formats, for the film, to gather a large audience.
For local distribution we made use of the Geo Films which is a film distribution company owned by Geo Television Network based Pakistan. It distributes Hollywood, Bollywood and Lollywood films in cinemas across Pakistan. It is very helpful in distributing our product very well as it focuses on distributing films only in Pakistan which is beneficial in expanding our audience spectrum very efficiently . It also encourages local and independent film makers. Some of the examples are 'Khuda kay liye', 'Bol', 'Dukhtar' and 'Manto'.
Our group made use of different online social sites to make Darar a wide known film hence increasing appreciators and viewers of it. Widely used social chatting sites like Facebook and Twitter and video-sharing sites like Vimeo and Youtube, these all were used to post updates, character information and video clips of the opening film. As there is no stoppage to online media distribution and hardly any restriction to a particular region, the film will be available anytime and anywhere to the viewers. Therefore, online distribution is basically viral marketing.
