In 2017, roughly 50,000 women worldwide were killed by domestic abuse. That is 132 women every single day.
What is it?
A pattern of abusive behavior in any relationship that is used by one partner to gain or maintain power and control over another intimate partner.
This includes any behaviors that intimidate, manipulate, humiliate, isolate, frighten, terrorize, coerce, threaten, blame, hurt, injure, or wound someone.

However, due to domestic violence being under-reported, these figures are likely underestimated.

Domestic violence and abuse accounts for 16% of all violent crimes, but it is still the least likely to be reported to the police.
This crime is not specific to gender, race, sexual orientation, or age.

Physical, sexual, emotional, economic, or psychological actions or threats of actions.
Signs of Domestic Abuse
Signs may include (but are not limited to) injuries where the explanation is vague or implausible; stress, anxiety or depression; alcohol or other substance misuse; self-harming or suicidal tendencies; self-neglect; a lack of opportunity for the person to communicate independently, with a partner talking over or for them; and an unwillingness to give out personal details, such as a telephone number.
