Living Images Techiniligies (LIT) Kenya, 2019
ABOUT LIT KENYA
This section will show the various spaces available for art installations and the kind of art that we propose
The mall is currently under construction. Projected to be completed by around September, so the installations, should be installed by July/ August 2019
I. Proposed Installations
i) Child Play Area
Proposed artwork for this area would be a Tile Mosaic full of colourful, child friendly contemporary scenery.
The fencing material can also be shaped like pencils or something that would be fun and interactive that the children would enjoy to see and play with.
Children Play Area: Tile Mosaics
Client can pick the theme that they would like.
Proposed art: ascending frames/ mounted artwork hanging from a railing and small exhibition lights
A temporary exhibition that will be changing every 3 months by Kenyan artists. This will make the display dynamic as well as get more people in the mall (from artists’ recommendation)
The artwork will be ascending, therefore drawing the shoppers upwards.
The height for the installation will be at 6ft up.

Children Play Area: Tile Mosaics
Traditional themes for the mosaic
Also, sculptures can be incorporated into the fencing and sitting areas
The staircase can also be decorated with a wall mural
iii) Ceiling/ Skylight
The area with the skylight can have an art installation like a sculpture coming down, not necessarily to the ground.
Ceiling / Skylight
Proposed artwork: fibreglass/ plexiglass sculptures of something like
Wildebeests spiraling downward,
cows (think, Maasai origins story)
or even butterflies or something abstract
The pillar that can be seen from the ground floor to the ceiling.
Proposed artwork: Plexiglass installation of dancing women. Since plexiglass in transparent, the sculptures will be sandwiched/ decorated with Ankara fabric for an African touch
Some lights/ fairy lights can also be added to illuminate it
The area has great potential for foot traffic from the neighbouring residential areas with a wide demographic of people in various backgrounds as well as travellers using the Waiyaki way outbound. The visitors to the mall, will be intrigued and attracted to the mall not only by the shops but by the artwork where they will want to take pictures/ selfies for social media tagging the mall, thereby getting free marketing to the mall via social media
To get artists with artwork style that the client wants/ likes in the various types of art or installation that the client picks after this presentation ie. Mural artists, Plexiglass/ fibreglass sculptors, temporary hanging art installation, etc
Vandals: This can be taken care of by security of the mall as well as insurance.
Art deterioration: Over time, art will deteriorate due to environmental factors such as heat, light, temperature, dust, insects, pollutants, etc. but once it is deemed necessary, they can be restored
Space at the mall will be competitive since a lot will be needed for branding by businesses within the mall, marketing banners and posters as well as activation spaces
