When applicable, allow students to use family as a source. Their family members may have an expertise that can add to their learning.
Share experiences and stories
Allow yourself to be vulnerable. If you share an experience relevant to the content, students will remember the content better.
Provide encouraging feedback
Students often feel intimidated by their professors. By providing positive feedback on assignments and participation in class, engagement in the class is increased.
Be understanding that students face hardships, challenges, and at times may have family emergencies. Be mindful of students life outside of the classroom.
Be culturally responsive
The university is a diverse campus, not every student has the same beliefs or grew up with the same customs you may have. Be aware of the different cultures and ensure that you are mindful of this in your classroom.
