Throughout the first World War the 1920's experienced a very significant change. In WWI war was romanticized and seen as something that needed to happen. Men were whisked away to war thinking that it was going to be heroic. When they got there they were shocked to find something significantly different. In the 1920's womens views of how they can be and act changed dramatically. They went from being shy and meek to outgoing and loud. They changed how they dressed, how they did their hair, and how they acted in public. This time period is one that shaped American history
Most people don't know that black women served in the military during WWII. Black women fought to serve in the war as nurses. People protested that it would not be appropriate for a black nurse to treat a white soldier. In the end the War Department relented, and the first group of Black American nurses in the Army Nurse Corps arrived in England in 1944.
