There are several Learning theories within the educational classroom that allows teaching and learning process to occur. These learning theories are such as behaviorism, constructivism, cognitivism and connectivism.
This learning theory refers to the way in which information is perceived by an individual. According to Mohammed (2012), this learning theory focuses on the processes involved in learning rather than on observed behavior. He states that cognitivists do not require an outward exhibition of learning, but focuses more on the internal processes and connections that take place during learning
Behaviorism is a learning theory that focuses on observable behavior and independent activities of the mind. Some behaviorists believe that it is more than the acquisition of new behavior based on environment. In an article written by Eric (2011), it states that behaviorism learning relies on observable behavior and relies on universal laws.
Constructivism is a learning theory that explains how people might acquire knowledge and learn. According to an article published by the University of Sidney (2011), it states that the theory suggests that humans construct knowledge and meaning from their experiences. In a constructivist classroom, the learners are the focus, while the teacher is the facilitator who asks good questions.
This is a learning theory that explains how internet technologies have created new opportunities for people to learn and share information across the web.
These Learning Theories
Creating PowerPoint slides.
Creating info-graphics and simulations.Classroom blogs
Creating electronic posters. In a biology class, learners can go on YouTube to view videos related to the topic taught in order to gain in-depth knowledge on that topic. Learners get to view what goes on in a specific cell.
1. Group discussions
3. Field trips
4. Research projects
5. Role playing
1. Rewards for learners that did great
2.Taking away privileges of misbehaving learners
3. Positive reinforcement
4. Continual feedback
1. Problem soling questions
4. Classification of information
Technologies to use within these learning theories
1. Computer-aided design
2. graphic packages
1. Virtual reality
1. Powerpoint presentations
2. Excel word processor
Technological activities within a constructivist classroom
1. Computer-aided design
*Learners will use this technology to design and create biological definitions. This will help learners understand their work more easily and reflect on it.
2. Graphic packages
*These packageshelp students build expansive mental models, prompt students with questions to help them think outside of the box.
Technological activities within a connectivist classroom
1. Virtual Reality
*Virtual reality biological video simulations allow students to explore different realities and have an alternative learning experience. Virtual Reality can help students easily understand complex concepts, theories, and subjects. they are able to digest and retain complex information at a much higher rate.
*This application helps students develop voice in order to communicate verbally what they have learned in the biology class.
Technological activities within a cognitive classroom
1. PowerPoint presentation
*PowerPoint allows for more sensory stimulation. Learners in a biology class will understand concepts better.
2. Online discussions
*This platform allow learners to discuss and debate about biological content Learners will gain in-depth knowledge on that specific topic. These discussions also help learners to learn from each other
Technological activities within a behaviorist classroom
1. BrainPop website
*This instructional website hosts videos that explain a variety of educational topics and are immediately followed by a short quiz, after which, based on the outcome, students can assess their own understanding of the video and content material.
*This is an educational system which allow a teacher can reward and take away points dependent on in-class behavior. Sounds and images reflect the addition or taking away of points, so good behavior is easily reinforced and bad behavior is also easily discouraged.
