In 1848, Germany was broken up into 38 states ruled by kings and princesses. 16 of those states unified and became the confederation of the Rhine. These states had no centralized government. . This event symbolize division because whats now Germany was divided up into 38 different states.
In 1850, Bismarck started to gain power/control over Prussia, now what is known as Germany. Bismarck united Germany by Prussia's military and economic superiority. This event symbolize unity because Bismarck unified Germany by the Blood and iron movement.
Treaty Of Frankfort
Prussia attempted to weaken France before the war just to have the most power. Prussia made allies with others to be able to go against France. Bismarck made sure that France and Austria were successfully isolated. This event symbolize division because they created war
The Satsuma rebellion
The Satsuma Rebellion was an armed uprising in which dissented samurai fought against the new Meiji government, they were fighting against the change in social order and end of isolationism. People rebelled against mandatory public education by burning the schools. This event symbolize division because everyone was going against each other because of the disagreements they had.
The Meiji Constitution brought the modernization and Westernization of the country. Meiji Constitution was unifying because the whole reason for it was to unite the country under a new centralized government in order to strengthen their army and be ready to defend against foreigners.
This is the first war Sino-Japanese War. Japan was fighting China over control of the Korean Peninsula. Japanese won a victory over China due to superior tactics and technology that stemmed from the Western influenced nation military that Japan had formed. Japan eventually Took control over Taiwan and Korea. The war embarrasses China- propels Japan into being the most powerful empire in Asia. This first war ended on April 17,1895 by the Treaty of Shimonoseki. This treaty was signed by China and Japan. This event is significant because it shows what Japan did to gain power and how it became powerful.
During 1908-1911 there was many changes as who had control over Mexico. Pancho Villa and Pascual Orozco took their armies and started attacking other government armies . Emiliano Zapata went after the local government and this ended very bloody. The city of Juarez was taken by the revolutionary forces in 1911 and they forced Porfirio Diaz to re-sign, and Madero was titled as president. This event symbolize division because during this period of time Mexico had a lot of different people in charge. This caused people to go against each other because they all wanted something different. This caused Mexico to become divided into different "sections" according to who they were agreeing with. For example Zapata wanted land reform and in the other hand Obregon didn't really want land reform. This is significant because it shows what people are willing to do just to gain power and be in control. For example they would kill each other and even Diaz put Madero in jail because he found out that Madero entered the race for the election.
The Convention of Aguascalientes
The convention of Aguascalientes was a meeting during the Mexican revolution. There was a meeting in Aguascalientes where Alvaro Obregon, Venustiano Carranza, Pancho Villa and Emiliano Zapata attended. The purpose of this meeting was for all of them to come together and settle all their differences. This event symbolize unification because all these men came together to try and create a plan to get Mexico to be one whole. The convention is significant because it left a political legacy that was taken up by the new Mexican Constituent Congress in 1917.
In 1917 a new Mexican Constitution was drafted and Carranza was elected President. The plan Carranza had was to bring Mexico all together and to end all its conflicts. The constitution was approved by the constitutional Congress on Febuary 5 ,1917. This event symbolize unification because once Carranza became president he brought Mexico and its people all together and ended all their conflicts. This even is important because this tells us how Mexico ended up after all the conflicts and gives us an idea of what thing in Mexico were going to look like in the future. The Mexican Constitution was the first successful constitution Mexico had and used, and it has influenced the Mexican government for decades since it was created.
