In The Kill Order "There's a Storm Coming" James Dasher and Samuel Illingworth describe the devastating effects of global warming such as, drier forests, large amounts of green house gases in the atmosphere, and the melting of our glaciers
Global warming is an epidemic that is caused by the increased amount of green houses that are trapped in the earths atmosphere."Earth's atmosphere contains various gases that act as a blanket to trap heat from the sun and prevent it from escaping back into space. This process is known as the greenhouse effect,"(Global Warming and Climate Change)
The concentration of green house gases is 30% more then 150 years ago

Global warming relates to The Kill Order because in the book sun flares hit earth causing the temperature to rise and the effects of global warming to take place at a much faster rate. James Dashner writes, "Sun flares.(...)Back to the city, as hellacious as it may be. As long as we stay inside for a while, we should be okay. But we have to get up there before the waters flood this place and kill us all." (Dashner,99)What Alec (This characters name) is referencing is how the extreme heat has melted the glaciers and raised the sea level flooding much coastline.
This poem relates to my novel because the sun flares that hit earth rapidly increase the Earths temperature thus, drying out vegetation, making them more susceptible to flame. James Dashner says, "The trees and shrubbery of the woods were already half dead-a tinder box ready to light up. It had been a few weeks since the last torrential rain, and anything that had regrown since the flares were parched. Misty tendrils of smooke bled along the ground at their fee, and the smell of burning wood laced the air." (Dashner, 136)

The poem i chose was "Theres a Storm Coming" by: Samuel Illingworth. It goes as such, "The sun-bleached earth bursts into flame, As lightning forks across the sky; A stolen gift for us to try, A burning life that we could tame. But once we gave this gift a name, We blinked the impacts from our eye; The sun-bleached earth bursts into flame, As lightning forks across the sky. And as this heat begins to maim, We turn and ask our shadows why Then let out a collective sigh; As guilty fingers shift the blame, The sun-bleached earth bursts into flame."(Samuel Illingworth) . This is saying that the increased temperature on Earth is drying our our vegetation and making it more susceptible to burning and staying aflame. Global Warming and Climate Change says,"Scientists have attributed the fires, which included the largest wildfire in California history to date, to the presence of extremely dry vegetation, brought on by rising temperatures, that created conditions that allowed the fires to spread rapidly and burn intensely."(Global Warming and Climate Change)
