How to Perform a Word Analysis
For all lessons, you will be required
to perform word analyses
on common medical terms.
Follow the directions very carefully.
Indicate Type as P, R, CF or S
For each component of the word (each "part"), indicate the type:
Combining Form (CF)
hyper- (P) means "excessive"
a- (P) means "no, not, without, lack of"
ex- (P) means "out, away from"
-ic (S) means "pertaining to"
-us (S) means "structure, thing"
-logy (S) means "study (process of)"
As part of the word analysis, include
definition of the medical term.
Example of a Word Analysis
cardi/o (CF) - means "heart"
vascul (R) - means "small vessel"
-ar (S) - means "pertaining to"
Definition: "Cardiovascular" means pertaining to the
heart and small vessels.
