The whole reason the revolution came to be was because of a man named ' Mohamed Bouazizi'
He was minding his own business selling fruit when he was publicly humiliated when he was told he needed a permit, this sparked a rage in Mohamed, so out of protest he made his way down to the government building and set himself on fire!
This set a spark to the revolution, because afterwards protests and riots began to spread through the streets.
ARAB SPRING BEGAN IN
Arab Spring Occurred in many different places such as....
Iran Saudi Arabia
Israel and Palestinian Territories Qatar
Some more reasons to the revolution were
-Over Population and the failure to provide a future to the mass amounts children
(over 2/3rd s were under 30)
-Unemployment and the low quality of life
People were discontent with the mass amounts of unemployment. many university grads had to drive taxis to survive.
plus, parents were struggling to provide for their children.
-A lot of the places were ruled by Dictators
Egypt was ruled by Hosni Mubarak since 1980.
Tunisia was ruled by Ben Ali since 1987.
Libya was ruled by Muammar al- Qaddafi since 1977
Arab spring is nowhere close to be over. But, there has been lots of thiings have happened to the cruel dictators
- The Egypt leader Honsi Mubarak was kicked out of power by the revolutionists and was later sent to life in prison for the killing of many people in the revolution. he is the first person to be tried in their own country
After spending a long time ruling the country. The Libya leader Muammar Qaddafi spent his last weeks hiding out in his home town before rebel fighters ultimately captured and killed him
Although Ben Ali was a very bad person during the revolution. Unlike the other leaders he was allowed to leave the country with his family on Jan 14 2011.
Although later in the year he and his wife were sentenced to 35 years in prison for an economic crime. But as far as I know. he has not gone and faced those crimes.
There was a large amount of overpopulation. with a high unemployment rate and a very low quality of life. people were struggling and starting to get angry
One guy had enough. After being publically humiliated.
And not being allowed to sell his fruits. he set himself on fire in protest this was just the beginning
After people found out about Mohamed Bouazizi they started to flood the streets and protest. many people died, but they got the dictators out of power and killed, jailed, or banished.
Sadly, the revolution is not yet over and people are still protesting. It has died down immensely and there aren't riots like every day so all we can hope for is it to be over ;)
Do revolutions Improve lives??
It all depends really. Arab spring did indeed improve the lives for some. but not for all. If a loved one died or got really hurt, a person may consider this a failed revolution, even if you won. But I would say it did improve a lot of lives because during the revolution because a lot of dictators were thrown out of power
Do they create long lasting change?
Yes, most of the time if the revolution is successful, it will create long lasting change. but that is not always the case. A revolution may have succeeded but sometimes another political figure could come into the picture promising he was one for the revolution. but then end up screwing everything over and it all goes back to a recession. This was all done by me, even though it was hard and I really didn't wanna do it alone :(
