Home Tour 2018-2019
Originally built in 1976 with a modern contemporary design, the Hinson home today provides Hill Country charm on its treed lot in North Lake Woodlands. The home showcases not only its history but the interests and travels of a loving family. The warm and inviting home serves as the perfect backdrop for extended family and friends at Christmas enjoying the festive season.
Guests are welcomed into the home with textured walls, hand scraped hardwoods and stonework. Fresh florals designed by the home’s sponsor Mporia Home & Garden accent the dining room table, while Santas collected by the Hinson’s during their travels to Russia, Finland and Prague gaze upon the scene.
On the way to the kitchen, see a former basketball court re-purposed in the powder bathroom. A collection of Campbell’s Soup ornaments adorn the tree in the kitchen, and the table is overflowing with heirloom Christmas dishes from Debbie’s mom.
In the family room, Mporia Home & Garden’s creative team adorned the majestic 9 foot tree and mantle with a festive red and green theme accompanied with a fun twist of black and white. The room also features a Lladro nativity scene, one of many collections throughout the home which sits above the television in the entertainment center.
An outdoor oasis features a diving pool, kitchen with TV and a newly remodeled cabana – a perfect getaway for guests. The cabana has a bath, overstuffed couches and a shuffleboard table.
The master bedroom with red and gold accents sits at the bottom of the stairs. The staircase is swathed with lush garlands, decked out by Mporia Home & Garden to coordinate with the family room. The bedrooms of the Hinson’s two daughters are upstairs and both feature lofts, original to the house. The gray and pink pallet is perfect for the younger daughter who enjoys dance and is currently on the TCU Showgirls dance team. The older daughter, also a former dancer and currently working in Chicago, has pointe shoes hanging from the black shelves next to her window seat. A game room completes the upstairs space.
Back downstairs is a wing added to the home by previous owners to use as a mother-in-law suite. Reproductions of the original blueprints of the home on the walls show the transformations that have taken place over the years. This wing features a handicap accessible bathroom, bedroom and kitchenette. The Hinson’s have turned it into a well-loved media room. The family tree in this room is filled with Christopher Radko ornaments and a hodgepodge of trimmings from travels. Pictures of Switzerland adorn the wall paying homage to the three years the Hinson’s spent there when they were newly married.
Exiting the home, the study celebrates Ed’s leadership days as a student at Texas A&M with autographed collectibles.
Situated on a creek lot with mature trees in Northlake Woodlands, the MacArthur home exudes modern Hill Country styling.
Built in 2015 by Jim Street, the home is decorated with airy color palettes with occasional accents of sea blue and cardinal red – a favorite color of the couple who met while students at the University of Arkansas. The clean lines are highlighted with an accent wall of shiplap in Matt’s office just off the foyer. Matt’s work space is also adorned with a Christmas filled with family ornaments. Down the hall, cream colored gnomes gaze out over the peaceful guest room.
Underneath exposed beams, the open floor plan combines the family room, kitchen and dining in one space. Expansive windows bring the beauty of the backyard nature into full view while providing natural light. A wreath hangs above the mantle housing a nativity scene and cream and red canvas stockings. The kitchen features granite countertops, a marble backsplash and a zinc covered island. A cocoa bar and an outdoor themed Christmas tree with birch ornaments complete the look.
Brenda Jamison of RE.Interiors provided Amy with guidance on turning her ideas into reality, and the two shopped various markets and Round Top to find vintage signage and unique pieces. Amy’s cozy office area sits off the kitchen with whimsical and inspirational mottos and sayings written on the walls.
The laundry/mudroom is painted a brilliant yellow to incorporate joy into household chores. The white penny round tile backsplash symbolizes suds. The master retreat is a tranquil sanctuary in gray, white, blue and silver and opens into the master bath with a soaking tub.
Sumptuous outdoor living areas are protected from the elements with a large overhang, including two seating areas, an outdoor kitchen and dining area. Down the natural stone path, a 12-foot Christmas tree sits beside the diving pool and pool house.
The game room houses a “Blessing Tree”, a pool table and a sliding red barn door to provide privacy for the area. Upstairs bedrooms belong to their daughter, a college sophomore at Texas A&M, and a son, a Coppell High School lacrosse player. An eclectic credenza decoupaged by Amy anchors the open area where clothing provided to school children through Assistance League Coppell’s Operation School Bell program is on display.
The MacArthur’s celebrate St. Nicholas Day on December 6 – a tradition passed on from Amy’s family. One personal gift is opened on this night. Their primary family celebration occurs on Christmas Eve when everyone receives pajamas and appetizers are served.

Under the arched doorway, clay tile roof and beyond the heavy carved wooden doors, the Becerra Spanish casa embodies the importance of family heritage in the Red Hawk subdivision.
Built 3 ½ years ago by Cambridge Homes, the Becerra home is intentionally furnished with meaningful family mementos. Guests see the first examples showcased in Tom’s study filled with antiques and heirlooms – a vintage typewriter, wall mounted telephone, 1942 crucifix and a flag honoring his veteran father. The tree in the corner overflows with Disney and McDonald’s toy ornaments.
The guest room tree sparkles with Swarovski crystal trimmings and houses a chest from the Mary Kay estate – one of many pieces from the collection throughout the home. Upstairs is home to the rooms of their two sons. The oldest son’s bed, made from reclaimed teak from Thailand, anchors the room and his wolf collection is displayed. The youngest son, away at college, has a room with a polar bear collection. The media room has a rare cocktail Roy Clark pinball machine and family pictures lining the walls.
Patcee’s Dickens Village collection spanning over twenty years is in the family room. The table is decorated in red and green with a cactus vein serving as an eclectic centerpiece. Nearby, the high school sweethearts from Oklahoma have a Christmas tree with an ornament from each of their 30 years of marriage on display. The kitchen features a Santa collection, while another Christmas tree in the family room is wrapped with collections found during travel adventures.
Tom’s immaculately appointed garage houses a matching Harley Davidson motorcycle and Slingshot in electric blue. The master bedroom is a restful refuge with a brick barrel ceiling leading into an expansive his and hers bathroom with a coffee bar and one of the eleven TV’s throughout the home.
Within the past year, the Becerra’s have added a maintenance free outdoor casita designed by builder Terry Holmes. Patcee worked with an artist in Australia to design the metal sculptures and Corten steel fence made by local artisans. A misting fan hangs above the outdoor bar and kitchen where the family enjoys sampling Patcee’s jambalaya and Tom’s smoked meats.
The Assistance League of Coppell is hosting a Wine Pull in the Becerra’s outdoor oasis where visitors will have the opportunity to purchase a wrapped wine bottle from a variety of selections.

The Wendel home is a blend of inviting décor uniting the backgrounds and passions of a California and a New Jersey native.
Located in Magnolia Park, guests are welcomed in the foyer by a 9-foot Christmas tree twinkling with red, green, gold and white ornaments. Off to the right sits the family study shared by Audrey, a commercial banker, and Don, a business brokerage firm owner. Angels herald visitors atop the book case surrounded by walls bathed in blue.
Underneath the stairway heading into the family room, the Wendel’s worked with their designer to maximize the space and incorporated a wine refrigerator. The warm taupe walls in the family room frame the family Christmas tree overflowing with homemade ornaments and a mantle draped with garland and stockings. The family room overlooks the outdoor pool area with a kitchen.
Trish Riley Design worked with the Wendel’s to renovate their kitchen area with white quartz countertops, newly painted cabinets and a banquette to maximize space for gatherings. Before and after pictures of the renovations can be found in this area so guests may see the transformation. A guest room featuring Santa decor sits off the kitchen. The master suite is a tranquil retreat with grey, white and silver accents.
The master bath was completely renovated within the last year and features quartz countertops, a twister-like copper light fixture and a painting created by Arizona artist Smith Carney. Passing through the dining room to the stairway leading upstairs, guests will catch a glimpse of the festive table set for the Wendel’s traditional Christmas Eve dinner.
The upstairs sports-bar themed room is currently the teenage hangout, but the Wendel’s unapologetically admit that they designed it for their use when the kids head to college. The room is lined with helmets and footballs to honor Audrey’s passion for the San Francisco 49ers, including items signed by heroes Joe Montana and Steve Young. Don is a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan despite his East Coast upbringing, and he has collections from his favorite team along with hockey and tennis memorabilia. Don’s drum set is in the corner highlighted with stage lighting. A fridge and microwave make this room the perfect setting for entertaining guests.
As an added bonus upstairs, Assistance League Coppell is selling raffle tickets for a tree donated by Heaven Sent Boutique and Gifts to interested buyers. Bedrooms for the Wendel’s two high school children – a senior daughter planning to head to California for college and a sophomore son currently immersed in lacrosse and golf – are tied together with a Jack and Jill bathroom.
A peak inside the Wendel home on Christmas Eve finds the family gathered around the tree in their Santa hats – a time-honored tradition they continue to celebrate.
