The Arlington house was first built in 1802 by George Washington Parke Curtis and was located in Virginia
Mary Curtis and Lieutenant Robert E. Lee are married
Mary Curtis, George Washington's step grandsons daughter is legally married to to Lieutenant Robert E. Lee and now live in the house together.
Secretary Edwin Stanton bought the house and turned it into a military cemetery.
Private William Henry Chirstman from Pennsylvania was buried as the first soldier in the cemetery.
He died at a local hospital due to illness.
March 4, 1921
The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is created to hold an unidentified soldier from World War 1.
Present Day . . .
Today over 400,000 men and women are buried in the cemetery and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier consists of 11 people.. People from around the world come every day to share their respect just as we will do.
