The Shoshone has been known as Shoshoni or Snake. Shoshone were organized into four groups: Western Shoshone, Wind River Shoshone, Comanche, and Horse Shoshone.
The Shoshone Indians are located across central

Religious beliefs of the shoshone came "greater beings" that normally can in forms of animals. These animals variate from tribe to tribe, some of the animals are the Coyotes, and Wolf. There is also the Nimerigar (Nim-air-ee-gar), a magical race of violent little people that the Shoshone often battled against in their myths.
The Shoshone people lived off of wildlife, such as buffalo, deer, and elk. While many Indian tribes are well known for jewelry, the Shoshone tribe was known for basket making. They are known for being descendants of ancient people who called themselves Newe (nu-wee), which means "The People. "
Post- colonial studies have virtually ignored the predicaments of American Indian communities in that territory known in European terms since the late eight- teenth century as the United States.
According to a paper written by Elmer R Rusco, The western Shoshone, made a large change "fundamental governance change."
Also from the National Indian Law Liberty website I have found "The Act 1946 to hear claims of 'any Indian tribe, band, or other identifiable group of American Indians' against the United States. The Act provides broad grounds for recovery, including claims based on 'unconscionable consideration' for tribal lands which were taken and 'claims based on fair and honorable dealing not recognized by any existing rule of law or equity.'"
The Shoshone-Bannock Tribe had recently experienced a building collapse. This part of the building that had damage put 42 people out of work. The building itself is 40 years old. It also caused the Tribes telephone system to be down. Their news paper "Sho-Ban" will not be produced. And their elderly nutrien progam is down.
The cultural assimilation of Native Americans was an effort by the United States to transform Native American culture to European–American culture between the years of 1790 and 1920.
I found this website about the Eastern Shoshone. I emailed them on 5.2.19.
They didn't end up responding but I hope and assume that they will continue to grow and be apart of our culture.
